Hungarian-founded Kodesage, an on-premise AI platform that helps enterprises understand, document and modernise critical legacy software systems, has raised a $6.6 (€5.67) million Seed round led by Greek VentureFriends. Pre-Seed lead investor Portfolion joined the round, alongside notable angel investors including Christian Szegedy, co-founder of Elon Musk’s xAI, and Mario Götze, the German footballer and World Cup winner.
The new funding will accelerate Kodesage’s go-to-market in the United States and Europe, and will power continued investment in the organisation’s engineering and product teams to deliver on Kodesage’s vision of self-healing enterprise applications.
Transforming legacy software knowledge into actionable intelligence
Founded in 2024 by enterprise software entrepreneurs Gergely Dombi, Miklos Szurdi and Gyorgy Szilagyi, Kodesage is aiming to transform how enterprises understand and use the information buried inside complex legacy software stacks. Its platform extracts information from code and documentation to create a live knowledge layer that enables teams to maintain and migrate mission-critical software with less risk.
The platform performs automated deep discovery of complex codebases, generates and maintains living documentation, supports migration with context-aware code conversion, automates test generation and enables AI-powered production support.
The idea was sparked by Dombi and Szurdi’s experience building a 300+ person software consultancy that specialised in modernising legacy systems. These projects were often slow and lengthy, as they depended on fragmented knowledge and a small number of specialists. Together with Szilagyi, an exited co-founder of Tresorit, they set out to make software modernisation scalable and repeatable, compressing projects that would previously take years into months.
"Software modernisation is rarely clean cut. In regulated environments, legacy and new systems often coexist for years, whilst the support burden grows as institutional knowledge thins out. This is a multi-trillion-dollar drag on enterprise IT. Kodesage’s living knowledge layer helps teams modernise legacy systems faster, resolve incidents and reduce repeat issues through powerful AI-assisted support," said Gergely Dombi, co-founder & CEO of Kodesage.
AI-powered modernization for regulated enterprises
The Kodesage technology is built for highly regulated industries such as banking, insurance, energy, transportation, telecoms and the public sector. The platform is designed for organisations with strict data residency, sovereignty and compliance requirements. Unlike cloud-based AI tools, it runs entirely within the customer environment, whether on-premise, in a virtual private cloud, or fully air-gapped, ensuring source code, schemas and database content never leave the organisation’s control. This enables secure AI-powered modernisation of legacy systems.
“There are numerous enterprises globally struggling to maintain and upgrade legacy software systems that reside on-premise. Starting with Oracle applications, Kodesage can help companies understand, maintain, and modernise complex, undocumented legacy codebases. As a result, they save them time and cost while cutting their dependence on retiring experts. Gergely, Gyorgy and Miklos have deep experience in the space, and we couldn’t be more excited to back them in their journey,” said Apostolos Apostolakis, Founding Partner of VentureFriends.
