👯 **Founder(s):** Agnieszka Walorska (Founder & CEO), Luke Linnekuhle (Co-founder & CFO), Henry Müssemann (Co-founder & CTO)

📅 **Founding year:** 2024

🏭 **Industry:** Finance (fintech / accounting & tax)

💥 **Problem:** Accounting and tax rules for small German limited companies (GmbHs and UGs) are complex and closely linked, so founders are told they need an expensive tax adviser. Some even think it's a legal requirement, and this makes starting a company harder.

📣 **Solution:** An AI-native financial operating system that automates bookkeeping, VAT returns, annual accounts and tax filings. In-house accountants review the AI's work and step in when a case needs human judgment.

👥 **Customers:** German GmbHs and UGs, including digital agencies, consultancies, SaaS, e-commerce, property, retail and skilled trades. It has 750+ customers, up from 400 at the start of the year.

🎳 **Team size:** 11-50

🌱 **Stage:** Seed

💰 **Investment amount:** €6M ($6.8M)

🚀 **Funded by:** Smedvig Ventures (lead), Wecken & Cie. (through Care4 AG, a Basel-based family office), Dennis Bemmann and Michael Brehm (studiVZ co-founders), Johannes Ditterich (limango founder), Martina Pfeifer (encourageventures), plus existing investors Keen Venture Partners and Dutch Founders Fund, who increased their stakes.

👁️‍🗨️ **Investor's perspective:**

> "Nowhere else in Europe is accounting and tax as demanding or costly for small businesses as in Germany, where the two are so tightly linked that a single mistake carries straight through to the tax bill. It is the reason big international players never gained a foothold here, and why SMEs were left with no real alternative. mika is the first to build for this reality instead of around it, and its customers demonstrate some of the strongest enthusiasm we have seen across our portfolio."

— said Freddie Kalfayan of Smedvig Ventures.

💡 **It will be spent on…** growth and further development of the platform. TFN also mentions hiring, compliance, stability and cybersecurity.

💬 **In their own words:**

> "The moment you start a GmbH in Germany, you're told you need a tax adviser. It goes so far that some founders think it's a legal requirement. To me, it's obvious that this cannot be how it works. At mika, we use AI to tear down that barrier, so that your bank balance or the family you were born into no longer decides who gets to start a company."

— said Agnieszka Walorska, Founder and CEO.

💪 **Their specialty…** mika's own AI models are trained on German accounting rules. They categorize transactions, record them and explain each entry. The platform also decodes letters from the tax office. Users can ask questions about their finances inside mika or through ChatGPT and Claude via the Model Context Protocol. For accountants, the mika Desk co-pilot lets one accountant handle about 300 clients. Individual tax advice comes from licensed advisers in mika's network. The company has passed €1M in annual revenue run rate (July 2026) and is growing 20%+ month over month.

🔑 **Business model:** Monthly subscription. Bookkeeping is from €49/month and the annual-accounts plan is €99/month (before VAT). Price depends on transaction volume.

💸 **Funding so far:** €6.8M ($7.77M), (€800K pre-seed in June 2024 + €6M seed)
